A pet photo mosaic is a large piece of personalised wall art. Your favourite photo of your pet becomes the main portrait — and hundreds of smaller photographs are arranged to build it, tile by tile. It's the opposite of a single framed photo: instead of one moment, it holds all of them.

Choosing your photos
Main photo: Choose a portrait where your pet's face is clearly visible — well-lit, in focus. It doesn't need to be professional. A great phone photo works perfectly as long as the details are sharp.
Small photos: Gather everything — walks, meals, sleeping spots, funny poses, photos with family. You need at least 200, though 500–1,000 creates the most detailed result. Including people alongside the pet adds warmth and context.

Choosing a main portrait of your pet
A close photograph with visible eyes and a clear outline often creates the strongest memorial. For a dark-coated animal, a lighter background helps preserve shape; for a light-coated animal, additional contrast can help. A full-body image is appropriate when posture, markings or a favorite environment is central to the memory.
Dogs and cats may be represented through a close portrait or familiar candid moment. Horses can be shown in a meaningful landscape, while birds, rabbits and smaller companions often benefit from a closer crop. Submit two alternatives if you are unsure which will translate most clearly.
What to include when the photo archive is limited
Some families have thousands of phone photographs; others have only a small collection, especially for a pet remembered from earlier years. A mosaic can still be created when images repeat. Duplicates are placed apart to reduce obvious repetition. Include photographs with family members, other animals, favorite toys, walking routes, homes and familiar places to expand the story.
At least 200 images is the normal requirement, while 500–1,000 gives greater variety. Old prints can be scanned or photographed in soft, even light. Do not discard an emotionally important picture only because it is not professionally composed.
A memorial gift for someone who is grieving
Timing is personal. Some people appreciate an artwork shortly after a loss, while others prefer it for an adoption anniversary, birthday or holiday. If ordering for another person, ask a close family member to confirm the main photograph and make sure every included image is appropriate for display.
Everyday moments often matter most: sleeping in a favorite place, waiting by the door, riding in the car or walking the same route. These details communicate the relationship more honestly than a collection made entirely from formal portraits.
Creating the collection without pressure
The order can be placed first and the photographs supplied later. Use Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud, Google Photos, Shutterfly, Amazon Photos or WeTransfer. Label the main image separately and include the order number with the link. There is no need to organize the archive immediately during a difficult period.
Choosing a quiet, lasting presentation
A photo print fits an existing frame, canvas has a soft ready-to-hang surface, and wood framing offers a traditional memorial style. Metal framing feels more contemporary, while acrylic creates vivid color and depth. A digital file allows local printing or several copies for family members.
For the small photographs to remain recognizable, select at least 16 × 20 inches. Larger formats provide more room for faces and details. The crop and overall tone can be checked in the digital proof before production.
Proof, revisions and privacy
A digital proof and free revisions are included before printing. The family can request changes to crop, brightness, color balance or the main image, and production begins only after approval. Submitted photographs are used for the commissioned artwork and do not need to be shared publicly.

Including more than one pet in the story
When animals shared the same home, the smaller collection can include all of them even if one companion forms the main portrait. This reflects the real family environment and may provide photographs from more years. If two pets should have equal importance from a distance, a clear photograph of them together is usually preferable to combining unrelated portraits.
Color and background considerations
The main image determines the overall tonal direction of the mosaic. A very dark portrait may benefit from a lighter crop, while bright outdoor photographs may need careful balancing so facial features remain clear. Do not apply strong filters before sending the file. The proof provides a better opportunity to judge color in the complete composition.
Keeping a digital memorial archive
Before uploading, retain a copy of the original folder for the family. A mosaic is one interpretation of the archive, not a replacement for it. The final 300 DPI file can also become part of the family’s digital records and may be used for personal local printing when another relative wants a copy.
